Today, Sarah and I charged into Geneva on a mission. We needed a few essentials, so off we went. We only really got one thing done, but it was still a lovely day and good to get out. And we felt like we had experienced the traditional "European" afternoon, because at the end when we were tired and thirsty and done shopping, we got some juice and a loaf of bread and sat in the square and people watched. It was so lovely. The bread was tasty- Artisan bread with raisins, walnuts, and figs, and I fed sparrows out of my hand.
Later that night...
Perhaps the deans realize that the cafeteria's lack of variety was a source of frustration, because the deans organized a wonderful evening for all the dorm girls. They cooked us an...interesting meal. It was traditionally European in the sense that they served several courses, but other than that it was quite random in what was served. They had appetizers on the table of pretzels, nuts, and bread, and then the next course was salad and pizza. The main course was a Thai dish (pizza, then Thai...?) - rice and some kind of mushroom, Thai curry. It was quite tasty. And then... the topping on the cake, Haha, was cake. Dessert always seems to bring out the best in the French meals. They had four desserts they were offering, and one of our friends jokingly asked (well, she wasn't really joking), if she could have "tout", (pronounced as "two", but means all) when she said it I asked, "Helena, did you mean 'two' or 'all'? And she said, no, all. :) And the deans weren't even surprised by this. I think this is quite normal for them. So they dished many girls several of the desserts and they were, of course, tasty. And the deans even gave us all a little present, kind of hard to explain but this cute little thing of two little kids on a see-saw with little clips to hold pictures. Our deans are so nice.
