Un Jour dans la Vie de Kathleen (A Day in the life of Kathleen)

En Français et Anglais, pour votre lisant plaisir. (In French and English, for your reading pleasure (and to prove that I actually have learned some French and do more than travel all the time, though I can't promise my French will be perfect by any means. It'll be a very rough translation.)

Though I have sort of already explained how my days go, I have created a series of pictures to fully show the beauty of the days I've experienced the last few months, since pictures are worth a thousand words so they say. Malgré le fait que j’ai plus ou moins explique comment mes jours se passent, j’ai fait quelques photos à voir la beauté des jours j’ai passé les derniers mois, alors les photos sont plus que mille mots, ils dissent.
I begin my days around 6:00 or 7:00, recently by joining Sarah in the kitchen where we make homemade applesauce, homemade oatmeal, toast, and tea for our breakfast. It is a most enjoyable way to begin the day. Je commence mes jours vers 6:00 ou 7:00, actuellement avec Sarah dans la cuisine où nous cuisinons la sauce aux pommes, la céréale chaude, le pain, et le thé pour notre petit déjeuner. C’est une très agréable façon de commencer le jour.







We then head to class, where to stay for around 3 1/2 hours most days, taking Spelling, Composition, Grammar, Oral, and Literature. Et puis, nous allons aux cours, où nous restons pour plus ou moins trois heures et demi la plupart des jours, se prennent l’orthographe, la composition, la grammaire, l’orale, et la littérature.







After classes, I switch from my heels to flats, pick up my lunch and head down the hill to the border (about 30 minutes, the way I saunter). It has been a lovely walk lately with the warmth and new growth spring has brought. Apres les cours, je change mes chaussures, je prends mon déjeuner et descends la montagne à la frontière (environ trente minutes, comme je marche). Il était une marche très génial actuellement avec la chaleur et les fleures qui arrivent avec le printemps.







As I walk, I cross the main auto route that takes you to places like Milan and Turin. Lorsque je marche, je traverse la grand autoroute qui vous prends aux villes comme Milan et Turin.






Here or on the bus I take the time to eat the lunch the cafeteria makes for me; they are so nice! Ice ou dans le bus je prends le temps manger le déjeuner le caf cuisine pour moi; ils sont tres gentils!







Also on the way to the border, I pass our favorite tea house where I sometimes study on Sunday afternoons. And if I'm feeling indulgent and have some spare change in my pocket, I stop here on my way to work to pick up a croissant, pain au chocolat, or pain aux raisins.

Aussi sur la route, je vois notre favorite salon du thè où parfois j’étudie les dimanches après-midi. Et si j’ai l’argent et je voudrais être indulgente, j’y arête sur ma route à mon boulot et j’achète un croissant, pain au chocolat, ou pain aux raisins.


It is there at the border that I catch the bus number 44. C’est ici à la frontière que je prends le bus numéro quarante quatre.









But before I catch the bus, this is the time where I make the shoe switch once again, and put on my UN id badge. Mais avant que je prenne le bus, c’est le temps où je change mes chaussures encore, et je mets mon badge pour l’ONU.







After the short seven minute bus ride, I get dropped off in Carouge, a suburb of Geneva where I will catch the number 13 tram to the end of its line. Apres le court sept minute séjour dans le bus, j’arrive à Carouge, la petite ville dehors de Genève où je prends le tram numéro treize à la fin de ce ligne.


Here I also pick up a couple of free newspapers because what else does one do on the 30 minute tram ride to work but catch up on the local news? This particular day, the paper had articles about a swarm of bees that caused panic, someone who had vandalized a radar detector of the police's, and cocaine found in Red Bull.

Ici je aussi prends quelques journaux gratuit parce que quoi d’autre est-ce que on fait pendant le trente minute séjour en tram au travail mais lis le nouvelles locale. Ce jour en particulière, le journal a eu des articles qui ont parlé d'un essaim d’abeilles qui rends la panique, quelqu’un qui a vandalisé un radar des policier, et la cocaïne qui a été trouvé dans le Red Bull.







Once I arrive at work, I am greeted by the now functioning fountains in front of 'the chair', and the gate outside the flags where staff enter. Quand j’arrive à mon boulot, je suis accueilli par la fontaine qui marche maintenant en face de la chaise, et la porte dehors les drapeaux où les personnes qui travaillent à l’ONU entrent.










I walk down the 10 minute hall to get to the office, passing the colorful mural to reach our door.
Je marche dix minute dans la couloir d’arriver au bureau, voyant le mural avec beaucoup de couleurs d’arriver à notre porte.







But before entering the office, I stop at the bathroom, because I've eaten my lunch on the way and just because you're not at your house doesn't give you an excuse for poor dental hygiene. Thus, out comes the toothbrush and toothpaste I always keep in my purse, because one never knows when the tooth-brushing occasion will arise.

Mais avant entrant le bureau, je vais aux toilettes, parce que j’ai mangé mon déjeuner sur la route et juste comme vous n’etes pas chez vous ne donne pas une raison pour la mauvaise hygiène dental. Donc, hors viennent la brosse des dentes et la crème des dentes je toujours garde dans mon sac, parce que on ne sait jamais quand l’occasion va arriver.







Once inside the office, after settling in and checking my work email, I usual make my first cup of tea before diving into the day's work. The day is not complete without at least one cup of tea, usually mint. Quand je suis dedans le bureau, après que j’ai regardé mon e-mail, normalement je fais ma première tasse du thé avant commençant le travail du jour. Le jour n’est pas complet sans au moins qu’une tasse du thé, normalement la menthe.









After a hard day's work, I wash my tea mug out and have another good teeth brushing before leaving to head back home. Depending on a) how ambitious I'm feeling, b) how much homework I have, and c) how much money I have, I might stop and pick of a falafel on the way back at one of my favorite stands. They are everywhere, but certain places I've discovered, make them cheaper and better and they've come to know me at these places.

Apres un jour avec le dure travail, je lave ma tasse du thé et brosse mes dents encore avant partant d’arriver chez mois. Ce dépendent de a) comment ambitieuse je sens b) combien de devoir je dois faire, et c) combien d’argent j’en ai, peut être j’arrête commander un fallafel sur la route de retourner à un de mon favorite lieux. Ils sont partout, mais j’ai découverte que certaines lieux les faisant pour moins chère et meilleure, et ils me connaissent à ces lieux.










Then I might head to the University of Geneva's library to claim a cubby and do some studying. After I've sufficiently filled my head with French, I usually decide that I've had enough by about 9:00 or 10:00 at the latest and make the trek back.



Ensuite, peut être je vais à l’université de Genève à la bibliothèque d’avoir une petite place et à faire mes études. Apres je suis remplir ma tête avec assez de français, je normalement décide que j’ai assez environ par 9 :00 ou 10 :00 à la plus tard et fait le retourne.






Once again, I catch the tram and bus, where I begin the this time uphill march to the school, accompanied by my "happy playlist" on my ipod to help me keep up a good pace. Encore, je prends le tram et le bus, où je commence le marche, ce temps montant, à l’école, avec mon « happy playlist » sur mon ipod pour m’aide garder une bonne rythme.

I arrive at "Les Horizons", my new home, where I am greeted with the lovely decorations the dean put on the door after the girls moved into the boy's dorm. J’arrive aux horizons, ma nouvelle maison, où je suis accueilli par les jolies décorations que le précepteur a mis sur la porte après les filles ont déménagé chez les garçons.




At this point, I usually stop to see how a few people's days were and make the rounds talking to Leah or Jessica or whoever else is around, ending by collapsing in my room where Sarah and I recount our days to each other. I try to crawl into bed at a fairly reasonable time, since I'm more of a morning person.

A ce temps, je normalement arête voir comment quelques amis se passé leur journée et je parle avec Leah ou Jessica ou qui est là, finissant à ma chambre très fatiguée où Sarah et moi nous raconte notre jour à nous. J’essaie de me couche plutôt à un temps raisonnable, comme je suis plus un personne du matin.

And so goes my days in the French life that I have made.


Et alors c’est comment mes jours se passent dans la vie française que j’ai fait.
