We left Auburn in the car my parents had kindly loaned us and headed east, over the mountains, where we found....summer! After having missed out on summer in chilly England, we were quite excited to have a couple of nice sunny desert days in Walla Walla. We were staying with Jon's cousin and his wife for a couple of day while we tried to track down as many of our friends in the area as we could. We arrived at dinner time Tuesday night to find out that His Garden had sadly shut down (temporarily?) and instead went to a somewhat similar but not as good replacement in downtown Walla Walla with Katelyn and Leah. Their higher prices and pretentiousness made us miss the original His Garden. The next day we caught up with Jon's fellow Biblical Languages graduate and her border collie Annie for a walk around Lions Park. We ran and got some supplies for our typical picnic lunch, complete with a surprise chocolate bar leftover from England, which we enjoyed in the sun of Pioneer Park reminiscing about our wedding.

We then met up again with Leah at the Patisserie, enjoying fine French pastries and coffee in the heart of downtown Walla Walla. We headed back to campus to try and find some of our old professors, which was met with varying degrees of success. Jean-Paul was easy enough to track down and was so excited to see and chat with us he had a line of other students building up on the couch outside his office. Moving on to the Fine Arts Center we managed to see my old violin teacher Dr. Ritz, the organist/choir director Dr. Scott, and Jon's old band teacher Mr. Beck. Finally in the ad building we had a bit more difficulty. On the second floor, all but one of the history professors were gone for their research day. Going up to the third floor, we discovered that all the theology professors had moments ago gone to the conference room for their weekly staff meeting. Jon was ready to call it a day, but I was not to be deterred. We were leaving the next morning and it seemed a shame to miss them when they were all right there. So we told the theology secretary we were there and she agreed that of course they wouldn't mind if we popped in to say hello. So we busted in to their meeting and were warmly greeted by all Jon's old professors who peppered us with questions about what we had been up to and what was next for us. Next we met up with Katelyn to play some tennis, which really consisted of all of us chasing the ball around our court and the three adjacent ones. Our motto was that if it was still in the fence it was still good. Somehow, Jon and his tennis skills still managed to keep both Katelyn and I on our toes. That night we hung out with our friends Noel and Aric at one of our old favorites, Bankok, for some amazing Thai food and the latest news from the music dept. Finally, our whirlwind tour of Walla Walla ended with breakfast at Clarette's with Rachel, who is teaching a class at Walla Walla for the quarter. So much good food and so many good friends in such a short span of time!
