As promised, here is the second part of how our charity money is being spent each month. To see the first part, click here. First, our international choice.
International Choice #2: www.asianaid.org
For our second international choice, we chose to sponsor a child in India to go to school. There are many different organizations to sponsor children through (World Vision, ADRA, etc. ), but we chose Asian Aid. They work with poor families in Asia, sometimes children who are orphans, sometimes ones who are disabled, etc. I actually went to two of their schools in 2007 in India and did some volunteer work there. So we are sponsoring a twelve year old boy in India to go to school.
Local Choice #2: http://www.cadacanhelp.org/
Citizens Against Domestic and Sexual Abuse
A local non-profit here in Oak Harbor, I've heard really good things about them from various people in different lines of work who have been associated with them. They provide things like: crisis intervention, counseling, safe shelter, legal advocacy, parenting classes, and prevention projects. I'm actually hoping to do some work or volunteering with them in the future.
So there you go, four different ways that we have found to help the people around us, both near and far. What can you do?
