1 Hilda St. - Home to One Happy Husband and Wife

We have moved !! Finally, at last, and with great
effort, we are in a place of our home, one without
moldy walls and damaged ceilings. We decided things were getting desperate, there was no progress on the repairs to our flat, (in fact there almost seemed to be regression, as the insurance company changed their mind of which contractors to use), and the room we had been renting out from a family was becoming unavailable in the next few days. We looked at several apartments, which did not work out for various reasons. INSTEAD, we have a 3 BEDROOM HOUSE! Let me back up slightly. We decided things were getting serious enough we needed to call in reinforcements. We made use of a real estate agency, one Susie Smith, who worked tirelessly on our behalf. She knew our situation, what we were looking for, and how soon we needed something. Anything. She called us on a Friday saying that she had negotiated us a deal and to meet at the given address Monday morning to view the place, only a few blocks from our old flat. We met, loved it of course, moved in that weekend. We had not at all planned on upgrading so substatially, we would have been happy with a studio apartment, or less. But the owner of this house had hoped that 3 graduate students would live in it, earning him quite the rent. However, at the moment he had zero graduate students living in it, and it was likely that would continue to be the case until the new grad students arrived in the fall. Enter us. We need a place to live, he needs someone to pay some rent. Win win. We negotiated him down a bit, and are now paying only 50 pounds more a month on rent for a 3 bedroom house compared to our old flat. This place is soooo much nicer. So much cleaner and lighter. Nicely decorated, tons of furniture, brand new oven, microwave, fridge AND freezer, washer and dryer (yea!) , electric kettle, TONS of cupboard space, a huge bathroom, a backyard, and so much more. We moved in over the weekend and I think we were completely unpacked and settled by Monday evening. One of the best parts, aside from the obvious of finally having our own place, is that we actually have a property manager who amazingly takes care of anything that needs to be fixed! Who would have known how nice that could be... Oh to have a home, how happy are we!

That must've been such a relief! I'm so glad things worked out even better than you hoped.
