Always an Interesting Adventure...

Candice and I had been talking about a weekend camping at the beach for a while, and at last the time had come! Always up for a road trip, I stopped for supplies (which Candice later called "enough fruit to give a football team the runs." ) before proceeding on to Portland where I spent the night with Candice. The next morning, we were up and at it, determined to find the beach and a good place to camp. After passing through Tillamook and its 100th anniversary of the infamous cheese factory, we finally found the beach, though camping places were much harder to discover. We drove and drove and drove, finally deciding in the car it was time to break out the homemade hummus, chips, and salsa. This made us slightly happier for the thirty or so more minutes of aimlessly driving in circles ahead of us. After becoming thoroughly sick of the commercialization and marketing of the idea of camping on a beach, we finally found a place. Then we headed back out to enjoy ginger ale and chocolate on the beach during sunset, "sundowners" as Candice so aptly called them, a term they used in Zimbabwe. After our drinks, we headed back to camp where we set up, which entailed throwing blankets on the ground (no tent) and attempting to start a fire without lighter fluid. Yea for Candice and her mad fire starting skills.
