Today was pretty exciting, we got to see our first Korean wedding, a mere 3 days before we leave Korea! It was pretty cool. Two of our former students, Bobby and Ami were getting married, and were doing it super traditionally. Bobby first came to SDA in January as a high level speaker, having spent some time in the Philippines and Australia. Ami had been coming for quite a while and had reached a high level herself. They met in class in January, and Bobby, thinking she was pretty cute, made it his mission to get her to agree to a date with him. I had Bobby in my class for the first time and Jon taught Ami in March, when they finally started dating. They were also regular attenders of our weekend programs, so we got to know them pretty well. Then Jon taught both of them in July and August, at the end of which Bobby ended up graduating from SDA. We found out that term on an outing with them that they had been engaged since around June, and were getting married in October! We didn't see much of them after that, being so busy with wedding plans, but they tried to make appearances at weekend programs and birthday parties still. So today was the big day! Unfortunately, it was also the one day in the past like 3 weeks that it decided to rain :( At least they had a contingency plan. Like I said, they decided to go traditional. Normally in Korea, the couple will take pictures in the traditional Korean dress, hanboks, but the wedding will be in a modern Wedding Hall in a white dress. Ami decided to do the opposite. They went to Jeju Island a few weeks ago and took pictures in a suit and white dress, and today they wore the hanboks and got married at the folk village. It was really interesting to watch, and some of our other students that came said it was even the first traditional wedding for them to see! It was a pretty short ceremony, and then we had a nice Korean style lunch. We managed to catch them briefly to say our goodbyes and give them our gift and that was it! Congrats Bobby & Ami!
