Leavenworth - Bavaria of the Northwest

Bavaria in America? What? You doubt, but it exists, and right in the heart of Washington. After one forgotten prosthetic leg and a trip to the kennel for Nike and Tia, the Campbells, Erwins, and even the unexpected Hiscocks met in Leavenworth for two fun filled days of cold snowy adventures. We arrived to find our friends Jared, Damie, and little Ryann were joining us for the fun, grabbed a quick bite to eat and then headed straight for the sleigh ride, in a frigid 12 degrees. My poor toes pretty much froze, I don't know how the horses did it. But old Doug and Dick pulled through and got us safely back to the warmth. We then hit the village. We had done a secret santa drawing and had to find gifts for our person under $20. The little shops are pretty awesome, from tea shops and cheese mongers to crazy hat shops and a hot sauce shop that boasted a sauce of 7 million scovilles. I did manage to try one rated at 6 million scovilles, which was quite enough for me. We got our little gifts (we got a squirrel crossing sign for Kenneth :) ) and met up for dinner at an Italian restaurant in town before heading back for Kenneth and Adam's Christmas, since we hadn't seen them till Leavenworth. Our hotel was so cute, little Bavarian cottages almost. After "Christmas", we played a few rounds of Balderdash, which I dominated, (and where Kenneth claimed that the Peter Bailey cycled around Mr. Potter's office 40 times in the movie Cycling in Society and I claimed that it is illegal to use an elephant to transport small children to school without compensating the ownder) before collapsing in bed.

The next day we got up bright and early for a chilly day of snowmobiling. (it was -1 on the way up to the snowmobiles!! ) It was pretty fun, until I crashed. To be fair, I'd only been driving about five minutes on an entirely straight road with no chance to practice turning, when we came to a really sharp tricky corner. I couldn't get it to turn sharply enough, so we tipped over and landed in a ditch :( With five nurses in the group who all rushed over, we were quite well taken care of, though there was no bodily damage on site, just a nasty bruise that appeared later on my ankle where the snowmobile had landed on me. The snowmobile fared a little worse. The breakaway windshield had indeed broke away, as had the sideview mirror (which was not intended to break off). Luckily it was still driveable, so we took off again and made it to the top of this gorgeous mountain with a beautiful view of two lakes and clouds beneath us. Someone else tipped their snowmobile on the way back, which made me feel a little better, and we made it back without any further incident. Lunch at the pancake house and then it was time to end the fun filled days go our seperate ways once again! A reunion in Bavaria must be had!
