A Reunion in Boise

The long-awaited and much anticipated reunionbegan very early and with very little sleep. Candice had arrived at the house Friday night around 10:00, we went to bed around 11:30, and after falling asleep around 1:00, I woke up at 4:00 AM to finally make it out of the house at 5:00 in the direction of Boise. It was there that we were to meet Thulani and Busani and Makho (who lived there), our friends from Idaho we hadn’t seen in years. What should have taken a good six hours ended up taking around…7 ½ hours after a slight…detour. After finally arriving, hot (we refused to turn on the AC but had the windows and sunroof down instead) and ready to be out of the car, we got some really sketchy directions from someone who is, shall we say, a bit directionally challenged. But at last the five of us met up, and all was well. We relaxed in the cool of the apartment for a bit before heading to a nice park with the bubbles of course and Makho’s dog Friskett (Candice thought she was so clever when she said that if she had a dog named Friskett she would constantly be saying, “Friskett want a biscuit?” She and I found it funny but the boys didn’t really.) Anyway, we had a nice time at the park, then went for coffee before returning to the apartment for dinner and a movie.

The next morning we got up a bit late, and after unsuccessfully trying to get the five of us ready and out the door, we finally managed to get ourselves out. We went to this nice diner for a loonnng brunch, and then, according to Makho’s suggestion, it was time for coffee again. I think we stayed there from about 11:00 till about 3:00. We then ran back to the apartment to get our stuff and spent forever trying to get a decent picture, which didn’t really happen, before finally leaving at a somewhat decent time so that Candice could get some sleep for work tomorrow. It was miserably hot on the way home as well, and tank tops and shorts even felt sticky and heavy. But the music was grand, Candice read to me aloud from Grapes of Wrath, we listened to several podcasts, and had many good talks. Nothing terribly exciting but it was so good to catch up with everyone and do something for the weekend.
